EXPLANATION OF WORKSHOP GAMES & ACTIVITIES
SINGING GAMES
A singing game is an activity based around a particular folk song or rhyme, usually associated with a set of actions and movements. They have been studied by folklorists, ethnologists and psychologists and are seen as important part of childhood culture.
Circle games are the most common kind of singing game but they can be done in other formations, such as lines. For younger aged groups, usually one child is "up" each time until the song is sung. There may be a chase around the outside of the circle. Alternatively something may be passed to the beat around the circle and a new child is "up" at the end of the song. For older children or mixed aged groups singing games with actions and dance movements work well.
Through singing games children learn, in a fun and practical way, how to to sing and feel the beat and rhythm of the music and generally learn musical concepts experientially rather than just as theoretical concepts. Children also learn how to interact socially with others in a group situation.

CLAPPING GAMES
A clapping game is usually played by two players and involves clapping as accompaniment to a rhyme. Clapping games are found throughout the world and similar games may be known throughout large areas with regional variations. The rhyme helps the players carry out the complicated actions in time. Clapping games can also be done as a circle game and in small groups with, for example, 4 children per group.
Hand-clapping rhymes and songs are actually linked to cognitive skills. Research by Dr. Idit Sulkin, of the Ben-Gurion University Music Science Lab, found that young children who naturally play hand-clapping games are better spellers, have neater handwriting, and better overall writing skills. Dr. Sulkin observed, “These activities serve as a developmental platform to enhance children’s needs — emotional, sociological, physiological, and cognitive. It’s a transition stage that leads them to the next phases of growing up.”

DANCE GAMES
Dance Games involve music and movement and are a spontaneous dance exercise practice.
Through learning basic dance principles children are able to dance and express themselves instantaneously without having to learn complicated dance routines.
Each dance is new, created without pre-planning or rehearsal. Dancers listen, find the rhythm and allow the body to move in harmony to the music. They either explore freely on their own or pick up ideas from other dancers.
Dance Games principles involve appreciating music, releasing inhibitions, adjusting movements to personal preferences, exploring creatively, and inspiring others.
In summary, Dance Games give children the opportunity to explore the very natural activity of dancing to music, which improves their physical and emotional health and well-being and creates joy in their lives.

ACTION SONGS
Action Songs are songs which are completed with particular body movements that support the meaning of the song.
This type of songs usually requires body movements of the whole parts of the body or only some parts of it.
They are songs with movements for miming and role-playing the words and the language structures thereby teaching language in a fun and exciting way.
Action Songs help children to develop concentration, memory and coordination. Repetition is a feature which is common in Action Songs. Repetition allows children to guess what comes next and consolidate language learning.
Singing Action Songs is not only a great way to incorporate music in child's life but also helps develop motor skills.
Action Songs also allow the release of high emotional energy for children so they can be an important tool in their emotional and social health and development.
